By Adam Rizvi | Editor-in-Chief, The India Observer (TIO): NEW YORK / NEW JERSEY — The FIFA World Cup 2026™ New York New Jersey Host Committee has announced that four national teams — Brazil, Haiti, Morocco, and Senegal — have officially selected New Jersey as their Team Base Camp locations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026™, further cementing the region’s status as a global soccer and tourism destination.

The announcement positions the New York-New Jersey region among the most selected host areas in North America, reflecting the strength of its sports infrastructure, accessibility, hospitality, and international appeal ahead of one of the world’s largest sporting events.

FIFA World Cup 2026 will bring millions of fans, athletes, media professionals, and visitors to the region, with New Jersey set to host eight matches, including the historic Final match.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill welcomed the announcement, calling the World Cup “a once-in-a-generation event” for the state.

“We are thrilled that Brazil, Haiti, Morocco, and Senegal have decided to call the Garden State home,” Governor Sherrill said. “Their decision underscores what we know to be true: New Jersey is a premier destination for world-class events and tourism.”

According to the Host Committee, the selection of these Team Base Camps is expected to generate substantial economic benefits through hotel stays, restaurant traffic, local tourism, transportation activity, and international media exposure.

Five-time World Cup champions Brazil national football team will establish operations at the Columbia Park Training Center in Morris Township, New Jersey.

The state-of-the-art facility includes international-standard natural grass pitches and modern athlete support infrastructure designed for elite-level competition.

Legendary football manager Carlo Ancelotti praised the complex, saying it provides “all the conditions for our work before and during the World Cup.”

Brazil is also scheduled to play a Group Stage match at the NYNJ Stadium on June 13, one of the tournament’s marquee attractions.

Haiti national football team will prepare for the tournament at Stockton University in southern New Jersey.

University officials highlighted the campus’ successful hosting experience during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and noted the significance of welcoming Haiti to a region with a strong and growing Haitian-American community.

Stockton President Joe Bertolino described the selection as recognition of the university’s athletic facilities and hospitality.

Morocco national football team will train at The Pingry School, continuing the school’s legacy as a training venue dating back to the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

The upgraded Miller Bugliari ’52 World Cup Field now features international-standard grass pitches and modernized athletic amenities.

Morocco is also scheduled for a highly anticipated Group Stage clash against Brazil at NYNJ Stadium on June 13.

Senegal national football team has selected Rutgers University in Piscataway as its Team Base Camp.

The Miller Practice Fields at Rutgers feature advanced irrigation, drainage systems, and elite-level training facilities.

Rutgers President William F. Tate IV said the university was honored to host one of Africa’s strongest football nations during the global tournament.

Senegal is scheduled to face France on June 16 and Norway on June 22 at NYNJ Stadium, matches expected to draw significant international attention.

Officials say the arrival of international teams from South America, Africa, and the Caribbean reflects the region’s cultural diversity and global connectivity.

Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry said communities across New York and New Jersey already celebrate and support many of these nations through vibrant immigrant and multicultural populations.

The presence of these teams is expected to boost tourism, inspire local youth soccer participation, and strengthen New Jersey’s image as a major international sports destination.

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico and is expected to become the largest and most attended World Cup in history.
