Gunfire Reported Near White House Correspondents’ Dinner; Trump and JD Vance Escorted Out by Secret Service

By Adam Rizvi | Editor, The India Observer (TIO): Washington, D.C.: A security scare briefly disrupted the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night after reports of gunfire near the Washington Hilton, prompting Secret Service agents to quickly escort President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance away from the venue while law enforcement secured the area.

According to early reports fromauthorities and witnesses, the incident occurred near a security checkpoint outside the main ballroom where the high-profile dinner was taking place. The event traditionally brings together journalists, political leaders, government officials, and public figures for one of Washington’s most prominent media gatherings.

Security personnel responded swiftly after shots were reported, with Secret Service agents moving protectively to evacuate senior officials and ensure the safety of attendees. 

Initial information indicates that one officer was struck during the incident but was protected by a bullet-resistant vest. Law enforcement officers quickly detained the suspect, and authorities have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Officials later confirmed that President Trump, Vice President Vance, and other guests attending the event were safe. 

Videos circulating on social media captured moments of confusion as guests were escorted away from the area. However, security experts note that in potential threat situations, protective teams prioritize the immediate evacuation of national leaders while other security units secure the scene.

Authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the suspect or possible motive. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement officials continue gathering evidence and reviewing security footage.
