Gov. Sherrill Fires Back at House Republicans, Accuses Them of Politicizing Election Security

By Adam Rizvi | Editor-in-Chief, The India Observer (TIO): TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has fired back at a group of House Republicans who raised concerns about election-related issues in New Jersey, accusing them of using election security for political gain.

In a response issued August 21 to a July 24 letter from House Republican members, Sherrill reiterated her administration’s commitment to addressing issues involving the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) while defending the integrity of New Jersey’s elections.
“My administration is fully committed to ensuring that elections in New Jersey remain free and fair, and we treat the integrity of the State’s elections as a matter of the utmost seriousness,” Sherrill said. “This work remains my focus.”
Sherrill then challenged the record of several Republicans who signed the letter.
“Washington Republicans, on the other hand, seem much more concerned with using the issue for political gain than they are with protecting our elections,” the governor said.
According to Sherrill, seven of the lawmakers who signed the July 24 letter had supported efforts to challenge electoral votes from states following the 2020 presidential election.
Sherrill also raised concerns about one of the letter’s signatories, alleging that the lawmaker had employed an operative who was convicted of voter fraud, bribery and blackmail.
The governor’s response represents a sharp escalation in the political exchange between the New Jersey administration and congressional Republicans over election security and election-related concerns.
Sherrill maintained that protecting the integrity of New Jersey elections remains a priority for her administration and defended the state’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections.
