By Adam Rizvi | Editor-in-Chief, The India Observer (TIO): New Jersey: Governor Mikie Sherrill and First Gentleman Jason Hedberg have officially completed their family’s move into Drumthwacket, New Jersey’s historic Governor’s Residence in Princeton.
The Sherrill family moved into the residence this week, marking a new chapter for the Governor and her family as they begin living at the historic property while continuing their work serving New Jersey.
In a statement, Governor Sherrill and First Gentleman Hedberg said they were “thrilled to call it home” and described Drumthwacket as more than the Governor’s residence, calling it “The People’s House.”
The couple said they look forward to bringing the residence to life as a family, opening its doors to New Jersey residents and sharing the history and heritage associated with the property.
“I’ve always said I will be a Governor for all of New Jersey, and living here puts us at the heart of our state — closer to the State House, the Capital City, and the important work we came here to do for every New Jerseyan,” Sherrill said.
The move also marks an emotional transition for the Governor’s family. Before moving to Drumthwacket, Montclair and Essex County had been the family’s home for the past 16 years.

Sherrill said Montclair and Essex County will always hold a special place in the family’s hearts, noting that the community is where she and Hedberg raised their children and built their family life.
“Our family is excited to mark this milestone and begin this new chapter,” the Governor and First Gentleman said. They also expressed gratitude to the state employees and the Drumthwacket Foundation who helped facilitate the move.
Drumthwacket, located in Princeton, serves as the official residence of New Jersey’s governor and has long been associated with the state’s political and civic history.
For the Sherrill family, however, the move represents more than a change of address. It marks the beginning of a new phase of their lives at the center of New Jersey government and public service.
As the family settles into Drumthwacket, the Governor said she looks forward to making the historic residence a place that New Jerseyans can experience and share.
