Darul Uloom to expel students using smartphones

BAREILLY  Sept 14: The ‘mohtamim’ (rector) of the world famous Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband, Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani, has warned students against using smartphones in the class and said that those found violating the order would be rusticated. Ashraf Usmani of the seminary told TOI that it was a reminder to the new students since they already had issued a warning ahead of Eid ul Zuha. Usmani said that using smartphone will also be restricted even in the hostels.

“These instructions are issued to maintain discipline in the institution. Such restrictions are followed in several other educational institutes in our country and we are not the first to introduce that. It is a well-established fact that using smartphones distracts students. We have spotted some students in the past watching movies on smartphones,” said Usmani.

It may be mentioned that all students had been warned against using smartphones before Eid ul Zuha. The seminary had instructed the students to hand over these to their parents when would visit their homes during Eid holiday.

“Largely, the old students know very well what gadgets they can use inside Darul Uloom premises. Even now, students can use mobile phones with basic features only. These instructions and warnings are issued time and again for newly enrolled students,” Usmani added.

Notably, the new session in various courses commences after the month of Ramzan every year.
