By Shahana Naqvi, Edited By Adam Rizvi, The India Observer: It’s difficult to express when terror hits home. 22 April 2025 Kashmir Pahalgam (India)in the serene meadows of Baisaran valley terror stuck, 28 innocent citizens including children, elderly, young and old including a just married bridegroom and a young Naval officer lost their lives in the coward act of violence stuck by militants who murdered them in cold blood.
Some cowards among them asked the helpless and scared citizens for their religion even having the audacity of forcing them to remove pants to check their faith, which goes on to show the sick and evil mentality of those satanic goons.

Well religion is such a soft target that it is the most emotional subject for anyone. No religion teaches hatred, violence or even bloodshed and Islam is no exception.
It’s teachings sadly have always been high jacked by certain followers who claim to be it’s followers in person but not in spirit in order to fulfill their selfish interests.
Those militants who asked the terrified tourists to recite Kalima (Islamic profession of faith) covered their heinous crimes under the garb of Islam which ironically means Peace.

A terrorist has no religion, no faith, no consciousness, no emotions, nor humanity left when they commit the treacherous crimes on humanity .
They have no beliefs but a larger propaganda and that is to instill hatred, violence and fear amongst it’s victims.
The attack in Pahalgam was an attack on the heart of India, with the intention of disrupting peace and security of India, especially Kashmir.
Kashmir is a crown on India’s head, it’s history is complexed and bloody. Whether it is Pakistan or China everyone wants to claim a piece of heaven on earth.
It’s population has known terrorism and violence for far too long that all that they want now is peace.

It is said that in times of difficulties and crisis real face of a human is exposed.
In between the bloodbath on April 22 2025 Kashmiri’s have displayed unusual display of humanity and human compassion where a poor Kashmiri horse rider lost his life to protect the hapless tourists, one Kashmiri guide named Nazakat Ali saved lives of a family including children risking his own. One reel showed a young Kashmiri youth carrying an injured on his back to safety, putting his life in danger.
We are a country of diversity where food, traditions and culture have evolved through centuries of living together.
My ancestors fought for the freedom of this country, my great grand father was hanged by the British and grand father fought for the freedom movement.

It is just not me but countless other Muslim families I know whose family members have fought wars against Pakistan and Bangladesh. We all grew upto believe that loyalty to one’s country is half of faith. Loyalty cannot be shown but felt and heard in our actions.
I opened my eyes to a very different India which is now sadly a shadow of it’s past.
My grandmother used to tie Rakhi to Chaudhary Charan Singh who came to her house to get his Rakhi tied even after becoming the Prime Minister of India.
I remember my grandma telling me to say my Salaam to Dikhshith Uncle and Aunty who were our neighbors in Lucknow on the day of Eid. I saw mutual love and respect between our families which still thrives between us to this day and we greet one another on our festivals.
I too have a dear Rakhi brother, whose family is very close to my heart. I have very good and helpful friends from other communities who have showered me immense love and understanding to last me a lifetime.

I have tremendous respect in my heart for the Principal of my previous school who came up to me and held my hands and asked about my well being after the riots in 2020 when Muslim houses were gutted to fire by Hindu mobs in Delhi ,which shook my core and our country. Her simple yet powerful gesture restored my faith in humanity and above all my country.
Those memories, love, respect and understanding that I’ve experienced gives me the strength and integrity to what I’m writing.
It pains me to see and hear words that makes me feel as a community isolated , and de human. It deeply hurts to see the social fabric of our country torn to pieces.
From hospitals to hotels the locals in Kashmir opened their homes in the face of tragedy, yet forgetting their kindness their families feel the brunt of hatred and violence throughout India not even sparing those who only belong to that particular faith and religion ,openly threatening them of facing serious consequences.
A wrong act of few cannot justify that a whole community has to been blamed.

The unfortunate incident in Kashmir was a serious act of intelligence failure on part of the government yet no press conference has been given on their behalf explaining their mode of action . Those terrorists should be arrested and punished openly for their heinous crimes.
Amongst all these failures the right wing has got an opportunity to spread their hatred and venom on all those people who have no connection to the horror that took place in Kashmir.
The hatred that I see online and in print media forces me to think and shudder that we might become another Gaza (Palestine) , where a whole community is being collectively punished because of a coward act of few.
Instead of been responsible citizens we are up against one another, the blood that was lost was Indian, the people who are been targeted and forced to leave their hostels are Indian, people who are terrorized on streets, their food stalls vandalized are Indians. This is the same Trump card used by British to rule over us, and the same tactics used by those cowards who killed and destroyed innocent lives in Kashmir on April 22 2025.

We’ve somewhere fallen into the trap of those terrorist’s and their propaganda to destabilize us .The unity of India is at stake like never before, we need to be alert and not give into hatred.
The onus is now upon us whether we pay attention to false narrative or stand together in front of forces that are threatening the unity of our country.
India is the land I was born into and will die one day, though I am not a political writer the grave situation in my country forces me to write.
I write today with a broken heart only keeping hope that the country whose freedom was fought with a heavy price shall not give into senseless hate and anger for after all it is the land of Sufis and Saints.

My sincere, deepest condolences to all those lives that were lost in brutal terror attack that has left many families broken, communities grieving and a nation in mourning. We stand in solidarity with them in this hour of grief.
In remembering them we reaffirm our collective resolve to uphold peace in face of terror. Om Shanti.
