Former UP Acting Chief Minister Ammar Rizvi Mourns Sister Syeda Bano Rizvi

By Adam Rizvi | Editor, The India Observer (TIO): LUCKNOW, INDIA — September 22, 2026: Syeda Bano Rizvi, the younger sister of former Acting Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dr. Ammar Rizvi, passed away Monday following a brief illness while undergoing treatment at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Lucknow.
According to a statement issued by the family, Syeda Bano Rizvi had retired as a lecturer from the Government Girls Inter College in Mahmudabad.
The family described her as a humble woman known for helping the poor and for her high moral values. She regularly observed fasting and prayers and had deep devotion to the Ahl-e-Bait.
She was also serving as the managing Mutawalli of Waqf Hussainia Syed Ali Hasan Rammal (late), a responsibility she carried out with dedication and sincerity, according to the family statement.
The news of her passing has brought grief to relatives and family members.
Remembering his sister, Dr. Ammar Rizvi said that her presence had always brought warmth and liveliness to the family home and that the void created by her passing would be difficult to fill.
Syeda Bano Rizvi is survived by her son, Yasir Rizvi.
A Personal Family Loss
The passing of Syeda Bano Rizvi is not simply a news story for me or The India Observer. It is a personal loss to our family as well.
I have known Dr. Ammar Rizvi, whom I have affectionately called “Ammar Chacha” since childhood, because of the longstanding relationship between our families. He continues to address me affectionately by my childhood nickname, “Pappu,” in his personal messages.
Our family connection goes back many decades through my eldest brother, Syed Hasan A. Rizvi, who was an active and prominent student leader at Shia College during the period when Dr. Ammar Rizvi served as Principal of Shia Degree College.
That relationship continued over the years as Dr. Ammar Rizvi went on to serve in important ministerial positions in Uttar Pradesh.
Because of that longstanding family bond, the passing of Syeda Bano Rizvi is deeply personal for us. She was not simply the sister of someone I have known since childhood; she was part of a family with whom our own family has shared a relationship for many decades.
At this difficult moment, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Ammar Chacha, her son Yasir Rizvi and the entire Rizvi family.
May Allah grant the departed soul eternal peace and give the family Sabr and strength to bear this irreparable loss. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
