By Adam Rizvi, The India Observer, TIO: Bloomfield, NJ â A new report by The #Philadelphia Inquirer is raising serious questions about Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelliâs ties to anti-vaccine activists and conspiracy theorists. According to the report, Ciattarelli is scheduled to appear as a âdistinguished guestâ at a gala headlined by Sherri Tenpenny, a doctor nationally known for spreading debunked claims that COVID-19 vaccines could make people âmagneticâ and interact with #5G towers.
Tenpenny, listed by watchdog groups as one of the âDisinformation Dozenâ responsible for nearly two-thirds of anti-vaccine content online in 2021, will be joined by other activists, including Mary Holland, CEO of Robert F. #Kennedy Jr.âs nonprofit Childrenâs Health Defense, who has compared vaccine mandates to slavery. The event also features outspoken anti-vaccine voices Jamel Holley and Leah Wilson.

Ciattarelliâs presence at the gala comes after a series of statements in which he has rejected vaccine mandates, saying he would ânever mandate a vaccine,â despite medical consensus and public health guidance. His alignment with these groups has alarmed health professionals and political leaders.
#CongresswomanMikie Sherrill, Ciattarelliâs Democratic opponent, condemned his association with anti-vaccine activists:
âAs a mom of four, I know how scary it is to take care of a sick child, and I am appalled that Jack is taking his cues from fringe activists, conspiracy theorists, and the likes of #Donald Trump and RFK Jr.,â Sherrill said. âTheir extreme policies will reduce access to vaccines and put more children at risk of preventable diseases. People are getting sick because of politicians like #Jack who campaign with anti-vaxxers and spread dangerous lies about our public health. Itâs clear we canât trust him to keep New Jersey kids safe and healthy.â

Public health experts have also expressed concern that Ciattarelliâs rhetoric and campaign choices could undermine trust in vaccines at a time when preventable illnesses are resurging. The #Inquirer report notes that Ciattarelli has courted so-called âmedical freedomâ and â#parental rightâ groups opposed to vaccination requirements in public schools.
This is not the first time Ciattarelli has aligned himself with far-right activists. Just last month, he campaigned with January 6 #rioters and leaders of Moms for Liberty, a group criticized for targeting educators and spreading #extremist rhetoric.

As the New Jersey gubernatorial race intensifies, the debate over vaccines and public health policy is emerging as a defining issue. Sherrill has pledged to join the newly formed Northeast Public Health Collaborative with neighboring #Governors, aimed at safeguarding vaccine access and resisting federal rollbacks pushed by Trump and Kennedy.
The controversy underscores a stark divide: while Sherrill emphasizes science-based health policies, Ciattarelliâs campaign continues to signal solidarity with groups spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories.
