By Syed Ali Mujtaba, Edited by Adam Rizvi, The India Observer (TIO): US President Donald Trump, on his media handle, Truth Social, had made the violent statement that ‘he would erase an entire civilization, if Iran didn’t agree to his terms for a deal’.
Trump unconsciously opened up the debate of the ‘Clash of Civilizations” that was initiated by the celebrated writer Samuel Paul Huntington in his book, “The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order” (1993).
Huntington’s thesis is that it’s not economic or military forces that are the causes of conflict, but it is the religious rivalries that are contesting for superiority in the Clash of Civilizations.

The insightful analysis of the book suggests that three religious forces are driving global politics today. These are Judaism (Israel), Christianity (led by the US), and Hinduism (India) that are contesting for supremacy against the Islamic civilization.
In the current war against Iran, the clash of civilizations theory can be found to have its resonance. The Zionist, the Christian, and the Hindu civilizational forces have joined hands to subdue the Islamic civilization represented by Iran.
If we accept the Clash of Civilizations theory, the Iran war can be seen from the prism of a struggle to establish the supremacy of Judaism, Christianity, and Hinduism over the Islamic faith.

Therefore, the military and economic victory of Iran against the US and Israeli forces has to be seen as its victory in the clash of civilizations. The victorious Iran, through this war, can restore the dignity of the Islamic civilization after being run down by its rival civilizations.
To recall, a new world order was created after the end of the First World War (1914 – 1918), which saw the end of the Ottoman Empire. The victorious British Empire divided the Arabian Peninsula into many countries with puppet despots to serve their imperial interests. America, which emerged as the most powerful country after the Second World War, established its bases in the Arabian Peninsula. The US thus established the supremacy of the Christian faith over the Islamic lands by providing security to the Sunni Gulf nations.

The Arab despots like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and others displayed servility to the US for their safety and security. In the course, the Arab depots abandoned their religious tenets (Imman) and surrendered their wealth and resources to the imperialist and Zionist forces. They ignored the words of caution that the US and Israel’s objectives are to establish the supremacy of their civilizational pull over the Islamic civilization.
In this clash of civilizations, Iran differed from the thinking of the Arab despots. Iran started as a democratic socialist country and nationalized its resources in the national interest. This was not accepted by the imperialist forces. They removed Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh through a coup d’état and placed a puppet regime of King Reza Shah Pahlavi to serve their interests.

The people of Iran resisted the monarchy’s rule and brought an Islamic revolution in 1979. Since then, the clash of civilizations simmered throughout Iran. The Islamic nation resolved to challenge the Zionist and imperialist supremacy in the Islamic lands.
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had appealed to the Arab despots to leave the US and the Israeli camp and look inwards towards the ‘Umma’ for protection against its enemies. However, the Arab despots viewed Iran’s suggestions with suspicion and turned a blind eye to the geopolitical developments taking place in their region.
The Arab despots even started investing their country’s wealth in the economies of the US and Israel through joint ventures. They even signed the ‘Abraham Accord’ in 2020 to normalize relations with Israel.

Iran disapproved of the order shaped by the US and Israel in the Middle East. Iran since the Islamic revolution in 1979 had started military preparations to fight the hegemonic forces in a war in the clash of civilizations.
The D day arrived on March 28, 2026, when the US and Israel launched ‘Operation Epic Fury’ and “Operation Roaring Lion” to do the regime change in Iran and control its oil resources.
Iran, with its back to the wall, successfully resisted the attacks against it and not only defended but defeated the imperialist forces.
The interesting part of the Iran war was that it became a replica of the Biblical story of the fight between David (Iran) and Goliath (the US and Israel). David overcame the impossible odds and proved that with religious faith and courage, it can outweigh the physical strength of Goliath.

The end of the Iran war came through a ceasefire where the myth of the invincibility of the Juda- Christian civilization was subdued by the underdog Iran.
The Islamic civilization represented by Iran proved that with grit and determination, the mightiest of the mighty can be brought to its knees.
Iran single-handedly fought against the two most powerful military forces in the world and scored a military and economic victory. This victory also underscored its win in the clash of civilizations. As a result, Iran saved Islam from prostrating before the US and Israel, the two imperialist forces.
So at the time of the ceasefire, Iran won at all three levels of the war, military, economic, and the civilizational conflict, and protected the dignity of Islam and Muslims worldwide.

Huntington’s book hinted at India’s entry into the clash-of-civilizations debate. The rise of anti-Muslim forces synchronized with the Hindutva movement in the 1980s in India. The BJP weaponized the Hindu religion to capture political power in the country. The Hindutva forces, buoyed by their success at home, flexed their muscles globally. This happened by shifting its allegiance from Islamic countries and aligning with Israel.
PM Modi’s visit to Israel just before the start of the war made it clear that it has joined the Clash of Civilizational debate, supporting the unethical and immoral war. Prime Minister, by uttering the words that Israel is the fatherland of India, shamed the Hindu race.
The Iran war has unraveled the true character of India, that it is fighting a civilizational war against Iran. However, when the tables turned to Iran’s side after defeating its adversaries, India found itself putting its foot in its mouth. It’s still in hope that Israel will save its skin on the Day of Judgment.

We may like it or not, but India is geographically inside the underbelly of the Islamic arch. Even then, India has consciously entered the clash of civilizations debate, which is neither good for Hinduism nor India.
To cut a long story short, in the forty-day war, Iran has demonstrated its superiority on all three levels of war: military, economic, and in the clash of civilizations. Iran, by displacing the US from the Gulf region, established its military superiority. After controlling the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has established its economic superiority in the Gulf region. Iran’s defeat of the imperialist forces restored the dignity of the Muslims and Islam worldwide. It has won the clash of civilizations debate.
