Thriving Through Change: Middlesex County’s 2025 Business Summit Highlights Innovation, AI, and the Future of Work

By Adam Rizvi, The India Observer, TIO: Middlesex County, NJ – With a powerful message of innovation and resilience, Middlesex County hosted its annual 2025 Business Summit at the Heldrich Hotel & Conference Center in New Brunswick on Thursday, October 9. Themed “Thriving Through Change: Business, Innovation, and the Future of Work,” the event drew more than 500 business leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, and public officials from across New Jersey and beyond.
The day-long summit explored how businesses can adapt and grow through innovation, workforce development, and the use of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Leaders Chart the Path Forward
The event opened with remarks by Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios and Commissioner Chanelle Scott McCullum, Chair of the Economic Development Committee, setting the tone for a day of collaboration and vision.

“Middlesex County’s Business Summit is more than a networking event—it’s a platform for shaping the future,” said Rios. “Here, innovation is not just encouraged—it’s embedded in everything we do.”
McCullum emphasized the County’s practical approach to growth: “Through the leadership of our Office of Business Engagement, we’re building meaningful partnerships and offering the tools businesses need to thrive.”
Rutgers and Middlesex: Building the Biomedical Edge
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. William F. Tate IV, President of Rutgers University and a noted social scientist. Dr. Tate underscored Rutgers’ growing collaboration with Middlesex County in research, entrepreneurship, and economic development—particularly with the upcoming Health and Life Sciences Exchange (HELIX), set to open in 2026.

“At Rutgers, the edge isn’t theoretical—it’s translational,” said Dr. Tate. “From molecules to markets, we’re building a biomedical ecosystem that redefines innovation at the national level.”
Panels Spotlight AI, Education, and Funding
Moderated by Tom Bergeron, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Business in New Jersey Everyday (BINJE), two key panels examined how education, technology, and capital intersect to shape the future of work:

- From Classroom to Career: Education Driving Talent and Business Development in the Age of AI – Panelists discussed the creation of AI curricula, training programs, and talent pipelines to meet emerging workforce needs.

Speakers included John Pulomena (Middlesex County Administrator), Henrik Elmgren (AGT & SHI), and Dr. Naveena Yanamala (Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School).
- The Future of Funding – Experts shared insights on helping life sciences and tech startups secure financing in a competitive landscape.
Panelists included Nancy Tyrell (Portal Innovations) and Dr. Arda Ural (Ernst & Young).
Breakout Sessions and Networking
Attendees later engaged in breakout sessions covering entrepreneurship and AI applications.
In “Entrepreneurial Success: Navigating Today’s Environment,” entrepreneurs shared personal success stories, moderated by Sho Islam, Director of the County’s Office of Business Engagement.

Panelists included John Huang, PhD (TheWell Bioscience), John McGuckin (CLIO Snacks), and Ariane Vasilatis (Zena Therapeutics).
Another session, led by Soleil Meade, Grow with Google Coach and CEO of Soleil Branding Essentials, offered hands-on insights into leveraging AI tools for business growth and customer engagement.
The day concluded with a networking reception hosted by the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, where attendees connected over light refreshments.

Since its inception in 2017, the Middlesex County Business Summit has evolved into one of New Jersey’s premier platforms for fostering collaboration between public and private sectors.
