Sushma Swaraj’s daughter, Bansuri breaks taboo, performs last rites
New Delhi, August 7, 2019, TIO: Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, on Wednesday performed her last rites.
Swaraj was cremated with full state honors at Dayanand crematorium on Lodhi Road.
Sushma Swaraj and her husband Swaraj Kaushal’s only daughter, Bansuri, performed the last rites, defying the custom that only sons or husbands or men of the family can perform the last rites for the departed members of the family. Standing next to her, is her father, Swaraj Kaushal.
The mortal remains of Sushma Swaraj were brought to the crematorium amid heavy deployment of NSG and Black Cats commandos, and hundreds of armed Delhi Police personnel.
Sushma Swaraj’s admirers were in tears as her mortal remains made their way from her residence to the BJP headquarters in the heart of the national capital.
It was a short journey but scores of admirers who sprinted along with the vehicle transporting her body ahead of the last rites kept shouting slogans hailing the veteran politician — and frequently breaking down.
