BLOOMFIELD — Mikie is carrying the momentum from her commanding victory to bring together Democrats and Republicans in support of her leadership and her vision for the future of the Garden State.

Since securing the nomination, Mikie has received strong endorsements from key leaders, including Governor Phil Murphy, Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim, and former Governor Christine Todd Whitman. She has also garnered support from a wide range of organizations across New Jersey, such as the New Jersey College Democrats, New Jersey 11th for Change, SOMA Action, and AFSCME New Jersey Council 63. Here’s what they have to say about why they stand with Mikie:

“Mikie earned the trust and support of voters because they know she is a fighter — from her time serving as a U.S. Navy pilot to her role flipping a longtime Republican congressional district. It’s now time for Democrats to unite behind her and defeat President Trump’s hand-picked Republican nominee, Jack Ciattarelli,” said Governor Phil Murphy.

“In Congress, we have seen a fighter who serves New Jersey with tenacity, is willing to take on the tough fights, and has a proven record of forming broad coalitions with people across the political spectrum. We are proud to endorse Mikie Sherrill for Governor and will work united to win in November,” said Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim.

“She’s the right person for the job,” former Republican Governor Christine Todd Whitman said of Sherrill in an interview with The Inquirer. “I’ve met with her. She knows how to organize. She knows how to manage and to lead […] Frankly, Jack has changed from the person I knew decades ago.”

“Half-hearted unity only strengthens the hand of an opposition that has made it clear they refuse to govern in the interests of working people, marginalized communities, or future generations,” said the New Jersey College Democrats. “Congresswoman Sherrill has been fighting for us for decades. From the Navy to her time as a federal prosecutor to the halls of congress, she has always had our back.”

“Mikie Sherrill has a deep respect for public service and a strong track record of standing with working people,” said AFSCME New Jersey Council 63 Executive Director Steve Tully. “She understands the critical role that AFSCME members play in keeping our communities running, from public health and public safety to essential municipal and state services, and she knows that work is under attack. Mikie Sherrill has proven time and again that she stands with public workers, and we are confident that as Governor, she will be a powerful champion for labor and a fierce defender of our rights.”

• In a crowded race for governor, U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill built a statewide coalition in the Democratic primary that stretched from New Jersey’s northernmost county down to Cape May.

• Though she was the last to join the six-person race, Sherrill was long considered the front-runner. But experts did not rule out a path to victory for anyone in the race, so the decisiveness of her win — declared just 40 minutes after polls closed — came as a surprise to some political observers who had anticipated a more competitive race.

• She captured 15 of the state’s 21 counties. None of her opponents was able to build the same level of statewide appeal of the federal lawmaker and former Navy helicopter pilot.

• Sherrill’s campaign recruited nearly 2,000 volunteers, made about 580,000 phone calls and 555,700 texts, and knocked on more than 120,000 doors, according to her campaign’s memo.
