By Adam Rizvi, The India Observer, TIO: With just four weeks left before New Jersey voters head to the polls, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill appears to be building strong momentum in her race against Republican rival Jack Ciattarelli.
According to a campaign briefing shared with party insiders and community leaders, recent polls — including one released by Fox News — show Sherrill l eading Ciattarelli by eight points, signaling that her message of affordability, transparency, and accountability is resonating across the state.
The internal memo highlights a series of new data points suggesting that Sherrill’s support is rising among Black, Latino, college-educated, and younger voters, while Ciattarelli continues to face skepticism over his alignment with former President Donald Trump and his record on taxes.

In addition to the Fox News poll, a Quinnipiac University survey and internal campaign data both show Sherrill maintaining a consistent lead. Despite heavy spending by Ciattarelli’s allies, voters, the campaign notes, appear unconvinced by attacks and are instead responding positively to Sherrill’s focus on making life more affordable for New Jersey families.
Sherrill’s campaign claims an unmatched ground operation, reporting over 4.2 million voter contacts, including more than 1.3 million phone calls, 2.5 million text messages, and nearly half a million door knocks since the June primary. The campaign also reports a fundraising total surpassing $7.75 million, with contributions from all 21 counties.

Sherrill’s team says their strong outreach in Black and Latino communities — including Newark, Paterson, Atlantic City, Trenton, Plainfield, and Vineland — has been critical to building a broad, statewide coalition.
Meanwhile, the Ciattarelli campaign has come under scrutiny after federal officials opened an investigation into the alleged illegal release of Sherrill’s unredacted military records to an ally of his campaign. That controversy appears to have sparked a surge of grassroots donations for Sherrill, according to her team, with more than $750,000 raised in small-dollar contributions following the news.

Sherrill has centered her campaign on affordability and cost-of-living issues, releasing detailed plans such as her Affordability Agenda, Save You Time and Money Plan, and a State of Emergency on Utility Costs. National outlets like CNN, Axios, and Bloomberg have cited her as a model for candidates addressing household financial burdens.
By contrast, Ciattarelli has faced “widespread criticism” for offering vague fiscal proposals, praising high utility rates, and aligning himself with Trump’s MAGA agenda. Critics have accused him of being “tone-deaf” and “backward-looking,” pointing to his absence from key community events and his attendance at an anti-vaccine conspiracy forum earlier this year.

As one campaign staffer reportedly put it, “It’s getting late early for Jack.”
With Sherrill’s campaign citing consistent polling strength, a robust field operation, and growing financial support, the race enters its final stretch with clear signs of Democratic momentum — though voter turnout, early voting, and mail-in participation will ultimately determine the November outcome.
