TRENTON, NJ | November 4, 2026 — New Jersey Democratic State Committee (NJDSC) Chairman Leroy J. Jones Jr. welcomed Tuesday’s election results, praising Democratic victories across the state and highlighting the party’s expanded representation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In a statement released November 3, Jones described the election-night enthusiasm as extraordinary and said the results reaffirmed the values and priorities of New Jersey Democrats.
“Today, New Jersey Democrats planted our flag in the ground,” Jones said, expressing pride in the state’s 11-member Democratic congressional delegation and thanking the New Jersey residents who helped make the results possible.
Democrats secured at least 10 of New Jersey’s 12 seats in the U.S. House. Democrat Rebecca Bennett defeated Republican incumbent Tom Kean Jr. in the 7th District, while Democrat Zack Mullock led Republican incumbent Jeff Van Drew in the 2nd District. Van Drew conceded Tuesday night, though the Associated Press had not yet called the race.
Republican Congressman Chris Smith retained the 4th Congressional District, leaving him as the only Republican representing New Jersey in the U.S. House.

Jones said the election results would give Democrats additional allies in Congress and at home as they continue to challenge President Donald Trump’s policies and those of congressional Republicans.
He also directed a message to residents of the 4th Congressional District, saying they deserved a representative who would fight for their interests. Jones pledged that the state Democratic Party would continue to stand alongside them.
The results represent a change in New Jersey’s congressional balance, with Democrats increasing their U.S. House representation from nine seats to at least 10 — and to 11 if Mullock’s lead in the 2nd District holds.
