Ali Aljarrah Secures Ballot Access with Over 700 Signatures in Passaic County Commissioner Race

By Adam Rizvi | Editor, The India Observer (TIO): Passaic County, New Jersey: In a strong early show of grassroots momentum, Democratic candidate Ali Aljarrah has officially secured ballot access for the June 2, 2026 primary election after submitting more than double the required petition signatures.
Campaign officials confirmed that Aljarrah submitted 725 signatures to the Passaic County Board of Elections—far exceeding the 300-signature requirement—a milestone that reflects growing voter engagement across Passaic County.

“This campaign is powered by the people,” Aljarrah said. “Submitting more than 700 signatures shows that voters are ready for leadership focused on working families, lowering costs, and delivering real results.”
The campaign noted that signatures were collected across multiple municipalities, signaling broad-based early support and an energized volunteer network.
In a notable move, Aljarrah chose not to pursue traditional party backing earlier this year after declining to sign a conditional party pledge. Instead, his campaign focused on direct voter outreach—quickly surpassing signature requirements within weeks of launching in January.
The campaign has since been endorsed by the New Jersey Working Families Party, which has played an active role in supporting grassroots candidates across the state.
“This milestone reflects the energy we’re seeing on the ground,” said Antoinette Miles. “Voters are responding to a campaign that puts working people first.”
With ballot access secured, the campaign is now expanding outreach efforts and focusing on core issues impacting residents, including:
- Rising cost of living in Passaic County

Food insecurity and access to essential services

Environmental concerns, including polluted Superfund sites

Housing affordability and utility costs
These issues are expected to play a central role in shaping voter decisions in the upcoming primary.
Aljarrah, a community organizer and policy advisor, was born in Paterson to Iraqi immigrant parents and raised in Clifton and Little Falls. He currently serves as a senior advisor to CAIR Action New Jersey, working at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and community engagement.
If elected, he would represent a new generation of leadership and increase representation for Arab American communities in county government.
