By Adam Rizvi | Editor, The India Observer (TIO):TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has issued a public statement following a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States that struck down tariffs implemented during the administration of former President Donald Trump.

In her statement, Governor Sherrill welcomed the ruling, stating that the tariffs had imposed economic burdens on working families and small businesses across the state and the country.

“I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision striking down President Trump’s illegal tariffs that hurt working people,” Governor Sherrill said.

“Donald Trump and his rich friends are the only people benefiting from this economy, while his tariffs are crushing small businesses and costing average families $1,700 every year.

I’m focused on fighting for working families to bring down costs and make New Jersey more affordable.”

The Governor emphasized that her administration remains committed to addressing affordability concerns, particularly in light of ongoing economic challenges impacting households and small business owners throughout New Jersey.

The decision by the nation’s highest court is expected to have implications for trade policy and cost-of-living dynamics affecting consumers and entrepreneurs alike.

Editorial Comment

“At a time when working families across New Jersey and the broader South Asian diaspora are navigating rising living costs, policy decisions that directly impact affordability deserve careful attention. Ensuring economic fairness must remain central to governance in order to protect vulnerable communities and small businesses striving for stability.”
