Mikie Sherrill at Patel Bros and Mughal express

At Patel Brothers, the largest South Asian grocery store in the region, Sherrill was joined by Edison Mayor Sam Joshi, who is seeking re-election, and Alisha Khan, a member of the South Brunswick Board of Education also running for re-election, along with members of her volunteer team. Attorney Manu Rajwanshi, Esq., founding member of the Desi Chamber of Commerce, and community activist Noreen Khan were also present. Staff from Agha & Agha,LLP  Supporters and community members, including leader Mukesh Kashiwala from Iselin, gathered at the store following outreach efforts by this reporter.

Following the Patel Brothers visit, Sherrill proceeded to Mughal Express, a well-known Indian restaurant in Edison, where the crowd quickly grew beyond capacity. The India Observer provided live coverage from both events, documenting Sherrill’s direct conversations with the community.

At Mughal Express, Sherrill listened as numerous small business owners shared their struggles, particularly around skyrocketing costs and declining profits due to tariffs. Those present included jewelers, clothing store owners, grocery store operators, and restaurateur Satish Mehtani, who emphasized the urgent need for relief.

Sherrill reaffirmed her commitment to helping immigrant-owned small businesses cut through red tape, lower costs, and build resilience against unfair economic policies. “These small businesses are the heart of New Jersey’s economy,” she said, “and I will always fight to ensure they can thrive.”
