Supreme Court upholds Trump’s Muslim ban
Earlier today, the Supreme Court upheld Donald Trump’s Muslim ban in a 5-4 decision decided by the Court’s conservative majority.
First, let’s call this ban what it is: It is an outright attack on the Muslim community that violates the nation’s commitment to liberty and justice. Not only does the ban violate the values — it also makes its people less safe and threatens their position as a beacon of freedom for the world.
This isn’t the only terrible Supreme Court ruling that has come down recently. In June alone, this conservative court allowed Ohio to suppress votes by purging its voter rolls, upheld gerrymandering in Texas, and allowed anti-choice “crisis pregnancy centers” to continue lying to women in California.
The democratic party says Let’s not forget: All of these 5-4 decisions are happening because, in 2016, Republicans used their Senate majority to block President Obama from appointing Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court. They stole a Supreme Court seat from President Obama — and if we let them win this November, Republicans could seal a conservative majority on the Supreme Court for decades. We need to do everything we can to regain a Democratic majority in the Senate, and we need to do it NOW. The democratic party is asking its members to chip in starting $3.00 to elect Democrats nationwide and fight back and get back the Senate in 2018 and the White House in 2020 as it is the only way to take back the judiciary from conservative extremists.
The democratic party further says,” Today’s Supreme Court decision is an assault on our most fundamental values — and it’s truly a critical time to stand up and fight back for what we believe in”. The most effective way to do that is by helping Democrats take back the Senate so we can protect our nation’s highest court from becoming overrun by more extreme conservatives.
There are 10 Democratic senators up for re-election in states that Trump won — and they need our help to defend their seats in the Senate. If we hold those seats, and then win a few races like Beto O’Rourke’s in Texas and Jacky Rosen’s in Nevada, we could flip the Senate and take away Trump’s rubber stamp to appoint whoever he wants to the federal judiciary.
