By Adam Rizvi | Editor-in-Chief, The India Observer (TIO): BLOOMFIELD, NJ — July 25, 2025: Mikie Sherrill has selected Dr. Dale Caldwell — a respected educator, pastor, and longtime public servant — as her running mate for Lieutenant Governor, bringing together two leaders who have built their careers on the values of service, integrity, and community empowerment.

Dr. Caldwell, currently the President of Centenary University, brings decades of experience across higher education, nonprofits, public administration, and civic leadership. He previously served as Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, executive director of the Newark Alliance, and senior manager at Deloitte Consulting. A committed pastor in the United Methodist Church, he has also shaped educational policy through 26 years of volunteer service on the New Brunswick school board, six of them as president.

Announcing her selection, Sherrill emphasized the shared commitment she and Caldwell bring to building a fairer, more affordable New Jersey.

“I’m proud to select Dale Caldwell as my Lieutenant Governor running mate because we share a commitment to public service and challenging the status quo,” Sherrill said. “Dale is the son of civil rights leaders who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — and he has continued that legacy by being a voice for the voiceless. His experience in education, nonprofits, business, and government strengthens our shared mission to put New Jersey families first.”

Dr. Caldwell said the campaign represents a forward-looking vision of leadership.

“Mikie Sherrill and I represent leadership that sees possibilities,” he said. “I am honored to join her ticket. Our administration will focus on lowering costs, creating opportunities, and defending the freedoms that allow New Jersey families to thrive.”

Caldwell, whose work is rooted in values of inclusivity and service, is guided by Proverbs 31:8–9: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” He carries forward the legacy of his father, Rev. Gilbert Caldwell, a civil rights leader who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Beyond his public service record, Caldwell is also deeply engaged in athletics and community mentorship as a former President and CEO of USTA Eastern, founder of the Black Tennis Hall of Fame, and a member of the Eastern Tennis Hall of Fame. A graduate of Princeton University, Wharton School, and Seton Hall University, he brings a rare combination of academic, civic, and spiritual leadership to the statewide ticket.

The Sherrill-Caldwell team will begin their first joint campaign event on Saturday, launching a statewide effort focused on affordability, civil rights, community inclusion, and resisting the MAGA-aligned policies of Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli.
