The India Observer, TIO: A 21-year-old New Jersey man was arrested and charged with battery after allegedly attacking a fellow passenger without provocation on a Frontier Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Miami on Tuesday.

Ishaan Sharma, of Newark, was taken into custody by Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies immediately after Flight 1203 landed at Miami International Airport on Monday night, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by ABC News.

The incident began when Sharma allegedly approached victim Keanu Evans and grabbed him by the neck while Evans was returning to his assigned seat, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Evans told investigators the attack was completely unprovoked.

“He was doing some, like, dark laugh like, ‘Ha ha ha ha ha.’ And he was saying things like, ‘You puny, mortal man, if you challenge me, it will result in your death,’” Evans recounted to WSVN 7News.

Cell phone video captured by passengers shows the two men in a physical altercation as other passengers pleaded for them to stop. The footage shows a flight attendant attempting unsuccessfully to break up the fight.

“Let him go,” an unidentified passenger can be heard saying in the viral video. “Stop, let him go.”

Evans told WSVN that he had initially reported Sharma’s threatening behavior to flight attendants and pressed the assistance button before the situation escalated. He said Sharma confronted him forehead-to-forehead before grabbing him by the throat.

“At that moment it was, you know, fight or flight responses kick in. I’m in a tight, confined space on an aircraft, and all I can do is just defend myself,” Evans said.

The altercation resulted in Sharma suffering a visible laceration to his left eyebrow that required medical assistance, according to the arrest affidavit. He was transported to Jackson West Hospital for treatment before being taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Evans suffered only superficial cuts and refused medical assistance at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sharma has been charged with battery and is being held on $500 bond, according to Miami-Dade jail records. He is being represented by a public defender.

Evans expressed regret about the incident in his interview with WSVN, saying he wished he had handled the situation differently.

“It makes me feel bad because I don’t want people to get the wrong idea about who I am as a person,” Evans said. “I’m a good person. You know, I recently got baptized. The biggest drawback for me, what I wish that I could have done better, was just not go back to my seat and been more adamant like, hey, keep me away from this guy.
