The India Observer, TIO: Union Calls to Protect Governor’s Office for Working Families

NEWARK — 32BJ SEIU, the largest property service workers union in the country, with 15,000 members in New Jersey, today announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey. The endorsement comes at a critical moment for working families, as 32BJ SEIU urges voters to keep the Governor’s office in Democratic hands to continue to advance progress on jobs, affordability, and protections for working people.

“Since 2016, New Jersey has delivered historic victories for working people—raising the minimum wage, enacting paid sick leave, and expanding protections that benefit tens of thousands of hardworking New Jerseyans,” said Ana Maria Hill, 32BJ SEIU New Jersey State Director and Vice President. “But the fight is far from over. That’s why we’re proud to stand with Mikie Sherrill—a proven champion for labor whose record in Congress shows she’s ready to build on these achievements.”

Hill continued: “Mikie co‑sponsored the PRO Act to strengthen workers’ rights and fought to raise the federal minimum wage—real, tangible actions that prove she understands the struggles working families face. She doesn’t just talk about supporting unions—she fights for them. We need leadership that will keep New Jersey moving forward, and that’s exactly what Mikie Sherrill offers.”

The endorsement from 32BJ SEIU reflects the union’s commitment to mobilizing its members—janitors, security officers, airport workers, and more—to elect a leader who will champion union rights, fair wages, and affordable healthcare. With thousands of union members ready to canvass, phone bank, and organize, 32BJ SEIU is prepared to provide critical ground support for Sherrill’s campaign.

32BJ SEIU represents more than 185,000 property service workers—including janitors, security officers, airport employees, and school custodians—across 12 states, with a significant presence in New Jersey. The union is dedicated to improving wages, healthcare, job quality, and civil rights for working families.
