By Syed Ali Mujtaba, ByAdam Rizvi, The India Observer (TIO): The US and Israel launched Operation Epic Fury (US) and Operation Roaring Lion (Israel) on February 28, 2026, against Iran, a major coordinated effort to destroy the military capabilities of Iran and with the ambition to make it a n on-state entity after regime change.

However, Iran’s retaliation against the aggressor has prolonged the war and turned out to be a nightmare as it is causing intense military and economic disruption in the world, with its spiraling impact being felt across the globe.

The original script of the war was to do a swift military strike to achieve the war objective and make Iran come to its knees. However, a “Pandora’s box” has opened up after Iran’s retaliatory attack on Israel and on US bases in the Gulf Countries.  The current situation is that the war is prolonged due to Iran’s defiance and the US and Israel’s overwhelming zeal to show off their military prowess.

Nature and Direction of the Iran War

With the Iran war showing no sign of ending, talk is going on in the drawing rooms about who will stop it. How and when this war will come to an end, and so on. Many experts have emerged, offering options to end the war.

The first option is that the USA and Israel will send ground troops to Iran to physically conquer the Persian nation, and after emerging victorious, will install a puppet regime to make Iran a vassal state.  And that’s how the war will end.

The problem with such an option is that the US boots will give rise to guerrilla warfare, and Iran is at ease fighting such a war. The US and Israel, with the Goggle maps indulging in such kind of adventurisms, will make the war bloody. The timeline of the war will prolong with no certainty of achieving victory. So this option is ruled out to end the war.

The second option is that both the US and Israel, who started the war does a beating retreat and announce the end of the hostilities. This option will bring shame to the aggressor, and both countries will lose face and global humiliation. As such, the USA and Israel, the two most powerful nations in the world, will never accept this option, so such reasoning to end the war is ruled out.

The third option is that the Gulf countries may ask the USA to end the war because they have become vulnerable after the loss of US bases that were meant to protect them. They may ask the US if they can choose between the GCC and Israel, and if the US chooses Israel, they may join Iran’s camp, taking the war to its logical end.

The fourth option is that the community nations in the world may rise to give an ultimatum to the US that either end the War or face global isolation. This scenario is emerging clearly, when 28 NATO nations have defied the US dictate. The US had given an ultimatum to the NATO members that if they do not join the war, their security cover will be stripped. This made the NATO members hold an emergency meeting and vote against joining the war.  The NATO members argued that the US is supporting Israel, which is essentially an Israel – Iran war that does not concern them.

Among all four, the fourth option looks the most likely scenario as the spiraling impact of the war is making the global community restless to end the war.

The situation in the Middle East is characterized by a “structural rupture”. The war has significantly damaged the alignment of the Gulf countries with the U.S. and is inching towards a new alignment with Iran.  With the security balance in the region having collapsed, Gulf countries that were earlier banding together with the US for their security have now become highly vulnerable. The prolonged war has made the Gulf countries choose between Iran or remain neutral; the US is no more guarantor of their peace.

The Iran war is showing no signs of ending hostilities; Air strikes are damaging military and civil facilities. Most of the airspaces are closed, and there is a disruption of the global supply chain in the Middle East.

The global energy market is in shock.  The Strait of Hormuz, being blocked, has a rippling effect on the world. This is because through it, 20% of the world’s oil transits. Qatar has stopped its LNG production due to its non-transportation from the region. There is a likelihood that the oil prices may rise above $100–$150 per barrel; then the war will become a global liability.

Gaza and the Fate of the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor

In case the USA targets the nuclear facilities of Iran and Iran in retaliation targets the nuclear facilities of Israel, experts warn of a potential “nuclear catastrophe.” In such a scenario, there will be a huge nuclear fire, and no one knows who will extinguish this fire. This nightmare looms large.

The Iran war is witnessing technological and strategic shifts.  The conflict has led to air raids, where USA missiles and interceptors are challenged by Iran’s low-cost drones and sophisticated missiles.

With the war showing no sign of ending, there is large-scale destruction of human and infrastructure facilities going on both in Iran and Israel.

The world has watched such the destruction of Gaza not long ago and never spoke against Israel for its act of genocide. Now it remains to be seen whether the global community watches the war with eyes wide open, cheering the American hegemony as reflected by the war, or clapping Iran for resisting against the hegemon. It is for sure that Iran will survive the war, but neither America nor Israel will remain the same after the war.

The war can only be stopped if the community of nations gets united and threatens the US and Israel to end the war.
