By Adam Rizvi, The India Observer (TIO): Sunday, November 2, 2025 | Newark, NJ: Thousands of energized voters filled Newark’s downtown square as President Barack Obama, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, and Dr. Dale Caldwell took the stage before a roaring crowd of over 3,000 people in person and more than 750,000 online viewers — a striking show of momentum for Sherrill’s campaign for Governor of New Jersey.

The rally, billed as one of the most powerful political gatherings in recent state history, echoed a unified message: leadership rooted in service, courage, and opportunity for every New Jerseyan.

“Mikie Sherrill is exactly what New Jersey needs right now,” said President Obama to thunderous applause. “She’s tough, smart, and ready to fight for the people — not for politics.”

 “Hell Yeah, New Jersey!”

In a speech that blended passion, humor, and urgency, Mikie Sherrill — joined by her running mate Dr. Dale Caldwell — outlined her plan to make New Jersey more affordable, inclusive, and resilient.

“When people ask me, ‘Is New Jersey up for this moment?’ — my answer is simple,” Sherrill declared. “Hell yeah!”

Sherrill promised to declare a State of Emergency on utility costs on day one, freeze rate hikes, crack down on rent-gouging landlords, and expand first-time homebuyer assistance. She also pledged to take on pharmaceutical middlemen to reduce prescription drug prices.

“Families shouldn’t have to choose between groceries and medicine,” she said. “I’m not here to write a strongly worded letter. I’m here to take action — for you.”

Taking On Trump and Standing Up for New Jersey

Addressing national issues, Sherrill sharply criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies and economic agenda, which she called “a worldwide extortion racket.”

“You pay more for everything — from coffee to groceries — while Trump’s donors get richer,” she said. “Not on my watch.”

She also vowed to continue her long fight to secure federal transit funding for New Jersey, particularly the stalled Gateway Tunnel Project, while calling out her Republican opponent Jack Ciattarelli for what she described as “silence in the face of Trump’s betrayals.”

“Jack gives Trump an A,” she said, pausing to let the crowd’s boos roll through the hall. “Well, I give Trump an F.”

A Call for Courage and Hope

Referencing the late Congressman Donald Payne Jr. and Congressman Bill Pascrell, Sherrill invoked a stirring reminder:

“Hope has two daughters — anger and courage. Anger at the way things are, and courage to fight for change.”

The rally closed with a rousing standing ovation as President Obama joined Sherrill and Caldwell on stage — a moment that symbolized both continuity and renewal in New Jersey’s progressive movement.

Editor’s Reflection by Adam Rizvi

As New Jersey prepares to head to the polls on November 4, I find myself not only reporting this story but living its meaning. Having covered Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and Dr. Dale Caldwell for quite some time, I’ve seen up close their humility, generosity, and sincere understanding of what New Jersey families endure every day.

Every time I meet Mikie, I am greeted with a warm hug — a small gesture, yet one that reflects her authenticity and kindness. Those moments remind me why public service, when rooted in compassion, can restore faith in leadership. I even have photos of her embracing me, and each one tells a story of human connection beyond politics.

For those of us facing homelessness or hardship, her message of affordability, fairness, and opportunity speaks directly to our struggles. Being homeless hurts — not just physically, but emotionally. Many of us have relied on the kindness of friends or family while waiting for a system that truly works for everyone.

I sincerely hope that if she wins, Governor Sherrill will remember the people who stood by her — those who have believed in her compassion and her promise of change. This election is about more than politics; it is about dignity, stability, and hope for every New Jerseyan.

So, to all voters: please come out and vote. Let your voice count for fairness, opportunity, and a better tomorrow — for all.
