By Syed Ali Mujtaba, Edited By Adam Rizvi, The India Observer, TIO: Chennai: Growing violence against Muslims goes unabated under Modi 3.0 rule. The author has culled SIX media reports for September 2025 to demonstrate how much anti-Muslim hatred has permeated the veins of Indian society. These incidents are not isolated events but have come from different parts of the country, suggesting that an organized program against Muslims is going on under the BJP rule in the country.

The apologists may swiftly retort with the argument that quick action has been taken against the culprits and normalcy restored. The fact remains that no argument is extended as to why so much hate against Muslims is being generated in the country at all.  Added to it is the conspiracy of silence by the majoritarian social groups that suggests they are all condoning the brutalization of Muslims in India.

The first incident is reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur, when a 35-year-old Muslim man was allegedly lynched to death by a group of cow vigilantes. The incident took place on September 16 when Aasif Babu Multani and his cousin Mohsin, residents of Mandsaur’s Multanpur, while returning with oxen and buffaloes that they bought from a cattle mart in Bhilwara’s Lambia Raila in Rajasthan, were intercepted by a violent mob and severely beaten on the road. The media report says that while hitting the victim, the assailants shouted ‘gau taskar [cow smuggler]’.  The fact is, there was no cow in their van, and the animals were for their agricultural and dairy needs.

The second incident took place on September 19, 2025, when a Hindu mob brutally attacked a Muslim family in UP’s Hapur district. The assault occurred at Masuta town under Pakhwa police station and appears to be a case of religious hatred.  Two men, Sajid and his brother Zahid, residents of Machhina village in Ghaziabad, were returning home with their families when a dozen assailants armed with iron rods and bricks halted their car and vandalized it. A Muslim youth, Shahzad, who tried to intervene, was also severely beaten. Their women, clad in ‘burqas’ were molested, local media reported.   The incident raises the question about the safety of Muslim families traveling at night in Uttar Pradesh.

The third incident took place on September 20, 2025, in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, where a local mosque’s imam, Mustaqim, was brutally beaten for refusing to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Mustaqim, in his statement, recalled, “They stopped my bicycle and asked me to say ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ When I refused, they took out sticks and beat me for hours. They wouldn’t let me get up and were saying ‘Yahi dafnado’ (Bury him here).’ The imam’s account is indicative of a disturbing pattern of hate against Muslims growing in the country.

The fourth hate crime is reported from Godhra, Gujarat, where a youth, Zakir Jhabha, was brutally assaulted by policemen at the police station where he was summoned to “warn” against uploading communally provocative posts on social media.  The family members of the youth, besides others, allegedly indulged in vandalism near the police station, leading to the arrest of 17 of them for rioting.

The fifth incident occurred on 21st September in the Alikhan area of Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. Here, a peaceful Muslim procession, “I Love Muhammad,” was brutally attacked by the police for taking out the procession without the administration’s permission. Police did house-to-house searches to track down those taking part in the procession, and many Muslim youth were detained or arrested.

The sixth incident was reported from Bihar’s Madhubani district on September 21, 2025. This time, a young Muslim, Mohammed Ibrahim, was attacked by a Hindu religious procession when the victim asked the group in procession to reduce the volume of their DJ music system as it was prayer time. What began as a simple plea to reduce the volume of the music quickly escalated into violent retaliation? The incident has sparked outrage among community leaders, who decry it as yet another instance of majoritarian intolerance against the Muslim minority.

All these incidents underscore the point of a fragile line between everyday disputes and targeted bigotry against Muslims in a multi-religious society in India. In a nation striving for harmony, such incidents are a grim reminder of the urgent need for dialogue, restraint, and robust law enforcement to safeguard the religious freedom of the minorities in the country.
