By Adam Rizvi | Editor, The India Observer (TIO): TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill on Saturday issued a strong statement following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse, by federal agents during an operation in Minneapolis.

In her statement, Governor Sherrill described the incident as a tragedy and raised serious concerns about the conduct of federal enforcement operations, calling for accountability and transparency.

“Yesterday, federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti on the street in Minnesota, an ICU nurse who cared for our veterans. His death is a tragedy — and the result of a reckless operation where federal leaders have clearly lost control,” Governor Sherrill said.

The Governor noted that the incident has intensified national debate surrounding the use of force by federal agents and the impact such operations have on community trust and public safety.

Governor Sherrill also referenced a prior fatal incident involving federal agents earlier this month, emphasizing that repeated tragedies demand closer scrutiny.

“These untrained, masked agents aren’t making communities safer — they’re occupying cities, inciting violence, and violating the Constitution,” she stated. “There must be accountability for their actions.”

Federal authorities have not yet released a full public accounting of the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and officials have stated that additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

The incident has sparked public reaction and renewed calls from elected officials and civil rights advocates for transparency, oversight, and adherence to constitutional protections during federal enforcement operations.

At moments of national tragedy, transparency, restraint, and accountability are essential to maintaining public trust. As investigations proceed, it is vital that all facts be examined carefully, constitutional protections respected, and community concerns addressed through lawful and responsible governance.
