Governor Mikie Sherrill Lifts State of Emergency After Severe Winter Storm in New Jersey

By Adam Rizvi | Editor, The India Observer (TIO):TRENTON, NJ — Governor Mikie Sherrill on Monday officially ended the State of Emergency  that had been in effect across all 21 counties in New Jersey following a severe winter storm that impacted the state over the weekend.

The State of Emergency, initially declared through Executive Order No. 8 due to hazardous winter weather conditions, was lifted with the signing of Executive Order No. 9. The termination took effect at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Governor Sherrill praised emergency responders, utility crews, and state and local workers for their swift and coordinated response, crediting their efforts with helping keep residents safe during what she described as the most severe winter storm New Jersey has experienced in over a decade.

“From the minute I was sworn in as governor, my Administration has worked to ready our state for this weekend’s severe weather,” Governor Sherrill said in a statement. “I want to thank all the workers across our state who responded with urgency and seamless coordination, keeping New Jerseyans safe and warm during the worst storm we’ve seen in a decade.”

The governor also acknowledged residents who followed travel advisories and stayed off the roads during dangerous conditions, helping to reduce accidents and emergency incidents statewide.

While the State of Emergency has ended, Governor Sherrill cautioned that bitterly cold temperatures are expected to persist throughout the week and urged continued vigilance, particularly regarding icy roadways and sidewalks.

State officials continue to advise residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to exercise caution as cleanup and recovery efforts remain ongoing in some areas.
