October 9, 2020.TIO: At the invitation of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Global & TiE DC Chapter, Ambassador of India to the U.S. Mr. Taranjit Singh Sandhu interacted with TiE membership in a virtual business roundtable today. Chairman of Board, TiE Global Mr. Mahavir Pratap Sharma; President, TiE DC Chapter, Mr. Manish Malhotra, and Board Member, TiE DC Chapter, Mr. Ravi Puli set the stage for the discussion. Around 80 members across TiE Chapters participated in the roundtable.
Ambassador complimented the TiE members and entrepreneurs for driving technology and innovation.
He stated that India’s inherent strengths – huge domestic market, skilled workforce, exist digital services infrastructure, a competitive tax regime, labour costs – and its democratic credentials make it an attractive investment destination. Ambassador also shared an update of the evolving COVID-19 situation in India and highlighted the grit of the Indian people in overcoming the challenges. India’s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 85 percent.
Ambassador’s address was followed by a Q&A session with the members, where Ambassador discussed the growing role of India in global value chains. He said that the reliability and trust factor in supply chain diversification decisions make India a frontrunner. He also briefed the members on the recent reforms being undertaken by the Government of India, including the labour and education reforms.
The discussion also covered the latest developments and investment opportunities in India in sectors such as ICT; advanced manufacturing; renewable energy including solar power; and pharmaceuticals.
