By Adam Rizvi, The India Observer, TIO: When the masks fall in the glare of betrayal, the nation is left stunned. The arrest of Haryana-based YouTuber and social media personality Jyoti—who publicly called herself a “staunch BJP supporter”—on charges of spying for Pakistan, is yet another jarring reminder of this grim reality.
The same woman who regularly delivered fiery speeches on patriotism, labelled critics as traitors, and wrapped herself in the cloak of nationalism, has now been caught transmitting sensitive information to Pakistan’s intelligence agencies. Reports say she visited Pakistan thrice and met agents like Rana Shahbaz and Shakir—the latter saved in her phone as “Jatt Randhawa” to avoid suspicion. After returning to India, she allegedly shared confidential information using platforms like WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Telegram.

This isn’t an isolated incident. A few years ago, a similar case emerged in Madhya Pradesh involving Dhruv Saxena, who was reportedly linked to the BJP’s IT cell. He too was arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s ISI. Both cases follow a disturbing pattern: aggressive displays of patriotism, vocal support for the ruling party, and behind the scenes, betrayal of the very nation they claim to defend.
It forces us to confront uncomfortable questions:
-
Can one be called a patriot just by shouting “Jai Shri Ram” or “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”?
-
Has nationalism been reduced to a convenient political mask—worn in daylight, discarded in darkness?

When the very voices that dominate newsrooms and social media, branding dissenters as anti-national, are found deep in acts of betrayal, the nation learns who the real traitors are. Nationalism is not noise—it is character, and that character is missing in such cases.
It’s time we wake up—not just to the threat of those who perform patriotism for the camera, but to the structures that shield these wolves in sheep’s clothing. True nationalism embraces scrutiny. It thrives on accountability.

This is not just a moment of scandal—it is a moment of reckoning. Silence in the face of such betrayal, especially when cloaked in political loyalty, is complicity. It’s time we ask hard questions. It’s time we stop mistaking loud slogans for love of the country.
