By Dave Makkar, Edited By Vijaylakshmi Nadar, Copy Edited By Adam Rizvi: Indians supporting prime minister Narendra Modi’s Hindutva, Nationalism, Hindu Rashtra, and one language, one religion, one nation can learn from the American experience. The USA is a nation of an amalgamation of races, religions, and country of origin, skin-colors, believers, and non-believers. It is an open, diverse society, and all members are equal with the right to identify themselves with America’s “Founding Fathers and Freedom Fight Hero’s”.
An African-American Barack Husain Obama son of a Kenyan Muslim immigrant and native white American mother; can speak with pride of George Washington the father of the nation and Hero of the American Revolution war of independence against the British Rulers. Obama a Democrat also has the right to speak with pride about Republican Abraham Lincoln who enacted the Emancipation of Declaration ending slavery which later paved the way for equal rights for blacks in America. The people of America elected Obama as its first African-American President by ignoring the race factor. This is the definition of a democratic nation, multi-cultural and multi-racial; a person joins it by acquiring citizenship by birth or by naturalization and from that moment on is the heir to all its cultural and social history.
A state rather any state that elevates its religious identity to one of the national identity sacrifices liberty and equality. This is true of any religion, be it Hinduism, Judaism, Islam or Christianity. For example, in the United States, if you marry a US citizen you yourself become a US citizen, regardless of religious creed, ethnicity, or gender. In Israel, the biggest example of sham or fake or fraud or ethnic democracy, on the other hand, Palestinians, are barred from gaining Israeli citizenship or even gaining the right to live in Israel through marriage to an Israeli citizen. For everyone else, if they marry an Israeli citizen, they too become an Israeli citizen.

The Israeli Arabs that represent 20% of the population, about 1.89 million under the Israeli constitution are second class citizens with fewer rights than Israeli Jews. This is pure, unadulterated racial discrimination through the legal sanction of an apartheid Jewish nation Israel. In Netanyahu’s words: “To stop democracy from wiping out the Jewish nature of the country we must ensure the Jewish majority”, which clearly demonstrate that even Israeli leaders openly admit Israel is not a democracy!
Modi’s long-term aim is “Hindu Rashtra” on the version of ethnic democracy of Israel with non-Hindus as second class citizens with lesser rights than Hindus. Under Modi; Israel has become the biggest trading partner for defense hardware and training. That also includes Israeli penetration in domestic policy matters including Kashmir. Even the state police forces are being trained in Israel; how to control brutally the demonstrations on basic issues raised by Indian citizens.
Modi’s main agenda now, under Israeli experts is, the frightening implementation of “ethnic democracy of Israel” in India and “one language, one religion, one nation” — also known as “Hindi, Hindu, Hindustan” of RSS. This does not include tolerance, human rights, healthy debates on important issues, inclusive economies, and progressive politics. In a survey conducted by a Delhi based think tank, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), nearly 75% of Hindus (who use social media) and 73% of non-users (of social media) said India belongs to all religions, dismissing BJP and its parent organization, RSS’s idea of Hindu Rashtra. Only 17% non-users of social media and19% of users think that India belongs to Hindus only.
Pray to Lord Ram and all the Gods that RSS, Modi and his supporters believe in, that Modi with his massive majority brings a positive change to India by dismantling the British Raj Structure rather than to implement “Israeli style ethnic democracy” in India. Under British Raj structure out of the total budget, 74% is used to run the system/government and 38% in debt servicing after adding new borrowing. In real terms, the cost to run the system is 115% and 60% in debt servicing.
By invoking Lord Ram, as a chant to initiate violence, do not force India to become a bigger version of Israel, a sham democracy catering to one religion to disintegrate India. Let India be a better country than the USA; one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Those who say that Israel stands tall as a beacon of Democracy in an otherwise dark the Middle East where oppression, denial of equal rights of its own non-Jewish citizens and every day brutal killing and maiming of Palestinians including children for their land are norms, are insulting every democracy around the world. Israel is the only country in the world that is occupying another country of 5.2 million Palestinians by brutal military force since 1948. Israel is killing and displacing unarmed civilians to annex their land village by village in their own country.
Mahatma Gandhi in November 1938 rejected the claims of Zionist for a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Gandhi asserted, “My sympathy does not blind me to the requirements of justice. The cry for the national home for the Jews does not make much appeal to me. The sanction for it is sought in the Bible and in the tenacity with which the Jews have hankered after their return to Palestine. Why should they not, like other peoples of the earth, make that country their home where they are born and where they earn their livelihood?” Mahatma Gandhi thus questioned the very foundational logic of political Zionism. He rejected the idea of a Jewish state in the Promised Land by pointing out that the “Palestine of the Biblical conception is not a geographical tract.”
