Eid Celebrated at the Indian Consulate, New York, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

 THE INDIA OBSERVER, TIO. 22 May, NY: Indian Consulate in New York saw smiles on the faces of the Indian Muslim Community across the tri-state when they celebrated Ramzan Eid along with the Honorable Counsel General of India. Mr. Randhir Jaiswal  “Though it was delayed by almost three weeks,” said the Counsel General, “next time will be done close to the Eid Day.” He was welcomed by great applause.

The program was organized by the leaders of the Indian Muslim community around the tri-state area. “It was a “unique and refreshing experience,” program started with the beautiful recitation of the Holy Quran by Sumayya Fatima Ahmed. Saniya Ansari – the second generation Indian who explained to the hall full of the audience ‘What is Ramzan and why it is celebrated.’

Mr. Ilayas Quraishi, member of the organizing committee and the Chief Operating Officer of the Parikh Worldwide Media, thanked the Honorable Consul General and the Staff of the Indian Consulate in New York for this event conducted after a long break. The event also saw the recognition of Dilip Chauhan, the Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of International Affairs. He reminded the audience that events like this provide a glimpse of the Diverse Culture of New York Celebrates.

State Senator Robert Jackson of the 31st district on the West Side of Manhattan embraced the event and ‘Congratulated’ the Consulate and the tri-state Muslim Community on the occasion of the recently completed Ramadhan month. He offered his tribute to the valuable contributions of the vast Indian community across New York.

Former Vice President District Council 37, Mr. Ahmed Shakir, opened the event by reminding the audience that the “Indian Muslim community of NY/NJ/CT come together to celebrate Eid & the 75th anniversary of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav of our great country India.” Community leaders of all faiths attended & enjoyed the program.

The event saw great participation from the various sections of the society, enjoying the music and delicious food from local caterers. India is a great nation of multiple countries in one country, which makes it ‘sare Jahan se acha Hindustan Hamara,’ said Minhaj Khan, a part of the organizing committee while moderating the session.

A Cultural Organization Mohiban-e-Urdu, president and founder Mr. Tamkeen Khateeb closed the event by thanking the Consulate General office in New York. He requested the office of the Consulate General of India to conduct more such events to encourage the participation of different communities that make up the great nation of India.

The event’s organizing committee thanked and requested the Consulate office for more participation in future events symbolizing the plural and secular values of the two great nations – India and the United States. As per the Press Release.
