Jawed Usmani currently holds the statutory position of Chief Information Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, to which he was appointed in 2015 for a five-year period.
In a career spanning more than 37 years at global, national, state and district levels with the Indian Administrative Service, Usmani served at the highest echelons of the federal and state governments, including more than eight years as Joint Secretary in the office of the Prime Minister of India, coordinating key social and economic portfolios. At the State level, he worked as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and also as the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, where he coordinated and supervised the functioning of all departments of the government.
Jawed Usmani holds the degree of M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and M.Sc. in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics.
